Your Social Village has compiled a list of what’s trending on social media this year
The Year of the Horse has a lot of challenges in store for marketers and business owners as we see some changes to social media trends this year. Social media has gone beyond the stage of being the shiny new toy on display and has reached a level of maturity that the business world is now dealing with seriously.
More and more businesses now understand the impact social media can have on their businesses and have concentrated a chunk of their marketing efforts in this area. With the increasing number of online users using social media, I can only see more business owners and marketers continuing this social media trend in 2014.
No doubt social media is here to stay and will continue to grow in the coming years, so let’s look at some of the social media trends for 2014 and beyond.
1.) Going mobile is expected to increase in the Year of the Horse. With the rising number of online users engaging directly through mobile devices in 2013, is anyone really surprised with this? An article on DigitalBuzzBlog.com showed that last year, 4.2 billion people used mobile technology to access social media sites. It further showed that 751 million users have accessed Facebook alone using mobile with 7,000 different devices.
2.) A number of business owners and marketers now recognize that creating and sharing quality content through their sites and accounts on social media is the main attraction of social media and general online activity. This year, we will see these business owners and marketers spending a bigger chunk of their budget on content creation and promotion as part of their social media marketing strategy.
3.) Let’s face it! People have always been fascinated with watching videos that’s why YouTube gets more than 1 billion visitors to the site each month. Around 100 hours of video is uploaded on YouTube every minute and over 6 billion hours of video is watched each month on the site. This is one of those social media trends we can only see increasing this year and beyond, especially when presented with these statistics.
4.) Visuals will play an even bigger role on social media pages this year. If businesses have not realised this before, they should now. In the newspaper business, images are very important, especially on the front page, because studies have shown that an interesting image can draw a person’s attention faster than a catchy headline. This is the same for social media. If you want to amplify your brand on social media, use amazing, interesting, new and highly fascinating pictures. Many studies now have shown that more online users will click on your posts if it includes photos or videos compared to just an all-text post.
5.) Every year, for the past few years, a new social media platform pops up and some business owners and marketers usually want to explore it right away and create an account. Try and refrain from doing that this year. One of the tips for successful social media marketing includes mastering at least one or two social media platforms before moving on to new ones.
Social media is constantly evolving and some business owners may find it difficult to catch up on new social media trends, some may find it hard to be visible on social media regularly, and some may be at a loss as to what to do next after creating pages on social media platforms. But that’s what we’re here for. Your Social Village makes it a point to keep up with new social media trends and master them.
